1. Graeme Watson passed away

Former Australian all-rounder Graeme Watson passed away in April 2020. Watson featured for Australia in five tests and two ODIs.
He was primarily a middle-order batsman and a medium pace bowler, who represented the side between 1967-1972. He was the first Australian cricketer to paly for three sides in the Sheffield shield the country's premier domestic tournament. 




2. Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day: 

The United Nations has proclaimed April 26 as the International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day. The day was first observed in 2016, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the 1986 nuclear disaster. It is observed every year to raise awareness of the consequences of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster and the risks of nuclear energy in general. 




3. IIT Kharagpur ranked 57th 

On April 22, 2020, According to Times Higher Education (THE)’s 2nd edition of Impact rankings 2020, which has ranked 766 universities from 85 countries, The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is ranked 57th with a score of 87.9 among global universities.



4. World Intellectual property Day

April 26 is observed as World intellectual property day. This day is celebrated to learn about the role that intellectual property rights play in promoting creativity and innovation. As per reports, world intellectuals property day 2020 places creativity at the centre of attempts to build a green world. 
The theme for the year 2020 is innovated for a Green Future.




5. COVID-19: Home ministry constitutes 5 new central teams to enhance virus surveillance 

On April 24, 2020, With lockdown violations in several districts of the country posing a serious threat to the lives of common people, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted 5 new Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to review the grave situation arising out of Coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total of such teams to 11.




6. SpaceX launched 60 Starlink satellites 

SpaceX successfully launched a new batch of 60 Starlink satellites into orbit on 22 April 2020 and nailed a rocket landing at sea to cap the mission.
The lunch marked the 84th Falcon 9 flight, making SpaceX's workhorse rocket the most flown U.S. rocket in use.
In addition, it is also the 7th Starlink lunch for an internet project & aims to put over 420 planned satellites into orbit. 



7. World Bank ties up with AIMA to organize a virtual workshop on Contract Management during Emergency situations. 

On April 24, 2020, World Bank (WB) has joined hands with AIMA (All India Management Association), one of the most renowned business schools in India, to organize a virtual workshop called “The Contract Management during Emergency situations” with the aim to create awareness about the likely impact of the coronavirus (COVID -19) pandemic on the implementation of the bank-funded projects.



8. Transcorp becomes the 1st non-bank company to receive RBI nod to enter into co-branding arrangements

On April 21, 2020, The Leading forex and payment solutions provider Transcorp International Limited (TIL), a 25-year-old BSE-listed company becomes the 1st non-bank company to receive Reserve Bank of India (RBI) nod to enter into co-branding arrangements for prepaid Instruments to be used in over 35 lakh stores and online gateways due to the current outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.




9. Care Ratings projected 1.1%-1.2% GDP growth in FY21; declined for FY20 to 4.7% form 5%

On April 24, 2020, the CARE Ratings has projected the gross domestic product (GDP) of India for Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-2021 between 1.1%-1.2% amid nationwide lockdown resulting in disruptions and halting of activities. The lockdown was announced on March 24 for 21 days, which has now been extended until May 3, 2020.




10. India attended Pak-hosted SAARC confefernce 

India on 23 April 2020, participated in a video conference of SARRC health ministers hosted by Pakistan to promote greater regional cooperation to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. India was represented at the conference by Director General of Health Services. SAARC nations comprise of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India the Maldives, Nepal Pakistan and Sri- Lanka.
