1.Israel on Coronavirus antibody breakthrough 


Talking about Israel Isolating a key coronavirus antibody in a significant breakthrough, Israel's Ambassador to India Ron Mala said " I am awaiting details on it the processes are not finalised, He added we are at an advanced stage, yes, of course, we will share it with the world, The coronavirus crisis has brought India and Isreal closer, he further said.



2. Indian Navy's Samudra Setu' to bring stood Indian citizens from the Maldives; Air India will evacuate from other 12 nations 

.Indian Navy has sent two India Naval Ships (INS) viz. Jalashwaand Magaron May 5, 2020, to Maldives capital Male to commence the first phase of the evacuation operations of Indians stranded abroad from May 8, 2020.
 For a period of 1 week, Air India (AI) is set to operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 Indian nationals stranded in 12 countries including Middle East, UK, US, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Bangladesh.





3. PNB Housing Finance Limited signs Mou with IIT Delhi to develop reusable PPE kits 

On May 6, 2020, Punjab National Bank Housing Finance Limited(PNBHFL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Delhi to support the research and development of a unique prototype material to be used in the manufacture of washable and reusable Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) surgical gowns and masks by using Jacquard knitting technology(machine knitting with a jacquard attachment that makes patterns by the use of coloured yarns).




4. IIT-Bombay Professor Saurabh Lodha receives Young Career Award 2020 in Nano-science and Technolgy  

On 5th May 2020, Professor Saurabh Lodha of Electrical Engineering of IIT Bombay received Young Career Award 2020 in Nano Science and Technology by the Department of Science and Technology(DST), Government of India to recognize his contribution for the development of two dimensional Van der Waals material based logic transistor technologies beyond silicon and nanoelectronic.




5. Economic Affairs Secretary Tarun Bajaj appointed as Director on RBI Central Board

On May 6, 2020, The government-appointed Economic Affairs Secretary Tarun Bajaj, a 1988 batch Indian Administration Service(IAS) officer, as a director on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India(RBI). He replaces Atanu Chakraborty, who retired on April 30.


6. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury reappointed as chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee

On 1st May 2020, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Congress Leader of Lok Sabha was reappointed as Chairperson of the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee(PAC) by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.


7. IES Officer Negi assumes charge as Director General of Labour Bureau

On May 6, 2020, D P S Negi, a 1985 batch IES (Indian Economic Services) officer has assumed charge as Director General (DG) of Labour Bureau in the Ministry of Labour and Employment by replacing BN Nanda. In addition, he also takes charge as Senior Labour & Employment Advisor of the ministry.
It is for the first time a dual-duty has been given to an IES officer.




8. North Pole’s largest-ever ozone hole, 620,000 square miles, finally closes


In accordance with the United Nations (UN) World Meteorological Organization (WMO), “record-level” ozone hole over the Arctic, which was in news in March 2020,   has now closed. Scientists have been monitoring the hole at the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS), a European Union (EU) earth observation program.



9.International No Diet Day 2020: May 6

  International No Diet Day (INDD) is an annual event observed on May 6 to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the dangers and futility of dieting. The day also aims awareness about the various dieting disorders which exist such as anorexia and bulimia. The INDD symbol is a blue ribbon.



10. GARUD portal launched to fast-track approval to COVID-19 related drone operations: MoCA and DGCA

On May 5, 2020, The Ministry of Civil Aviation(MoCA) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) launched Government Authorisation for Relief Using Drones(GARUD) portal(https://garud.civilaviation.gov.in) to provide fast track conditional exemptions to government agencies for COVID-19 related RPAS(Remotely Piloted Aircraft System)/drone operations.
